What is The Second Draft?
I’m a writer. I’ve published fourteen novels as of May 2024 and, without a doubt, know that the second draft is the most important part of the process. It’s where I shape the story, reinforce the theme, and strengthen the characters—all in the name of creating a story that is memorable. One that stays with you long after you’ve digested the last page. Words that bring comfort in times of sorrow and shore up your resources when you are struggling.
In my personal life, I’ve had to rewrite the ending frequently when a fresh plot twist appeared, figuring things out as I went along. All of these lessons I plan on sharing in the hope that one reader will see themselves in my words and experience a moment of encouragement or comfort.
It is what all of us introverted, empathetic feelings monsters aspire to accomplish with our work.
1. Why this, why now?
As a chronic over-thinker with an intense inner dialogue, I wanted a place to share random musings about issues that affect women over 40. Motherhood, dating after 40, mental health, addiction, the pursuit of happiness—nothing is off-limits. I have a ridiculous curiosity that demands satisfaction and the practical thinking of a Midwesterner. It’s the strangest combination.
2. Who is this for?

3. When will you post?
I will post once a week. The post will be available here for two weeks and then disappear into the archives on REAM STORIES and will only be available with a paid subscription.
